Aims and Scope

EXCLI Journal publishes original research reports, authoritative reviews and case reports of experimental and clinical sciences.

The journal is particularly keen to keep a broad view of science and technology, and therefore welcomes papers which bridge disciplines and may not suit the narrow specialism of other journals. Although the general emphasis is on biological sciences, studies from the following fields are explicitly encouraged (alphabetical order):

aging research, behavioral sciences, biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry including analytical chemistry, clinical and preclinical studies, drug development, environmental health, ergonomics, forensic medicine, genetics, hepatology and gastroenterology, immunology, neurosciences, occupational medicine, oncology and cancer research, pharmacology, proteomics, psychiatric research, psychology, systems biology, toxicology

Only original scientific submissions are considered. All articles are reviewed by independent experts (peer review) or editors (editorial review) to ensure the quality of the submitted work. EXCLI Journal is a gold open access journal listed in DOAJ, Web of Science, EBSCO, Pubmed, PubmedCentral; and a backup of the data is kept on the server ELDORADO at Technical University Dortmund.

Open access to full text articles of this journal is managed by IfADo - Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors, Dortmund, with no commercial interest. EXCLI Journal provides free access (Open Access) to its contents according to the basic assumption that the free public availability of research benefits a worldwide knowledge exchange. The articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).

Publication is free of costs for scientists. There will be no article processing charges.

All articles will be deposited at the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (Frankfurt/Main) as well as in PubmedCentral and in Pubmed.

Color pictures and other media are also published free of costs.

Online submission and reviewing process: The manuscripts are sent to two independent reviewers. Both reviewers must fulfil the following criteria: i) they must have published in the field of research of the manuscript of interest in peer reviewed journals. ii) They must not have published together with the authors and co-authors of a manuscript within the past ten years. This is checked by a Pubmed search by the editorial office. iii) The reviewers must not have any cooperations or mutal research projects with the authors. The reviewers have to come to one of the following recommendations: 1. reject, 2. reject with the possibility to resubmit, 3. major revision, 4. minor revision, 5: accept. If there are major discrepancies between the two reviewers the editor may invite a third reviewer.

First submissions of manuscripts may be done, e.g., in odt, doc, docx, rtf, txt. It is recommended to format references in the style of EXCLI J. As soon as a manuscript is accepted, the authors have a last chance to format their article in the style of EXCLI J. We guarantee publication within 7 days as soon as we receive an accepted, correctly formatted manuscript.

Although the majority of our articles does not exceed 10 pages there is no limitation of space. Long articles and extensive reviews are also welcome. Also extensive descriptions of Materials and Methods that facilitate reproduction of experiments as well as additional materials (films, simulations, original data sets) may be published by EXCLI J.

Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted by the corresponding author(s). Files can be submitted in electronic form in a Word-readable format (e.g., odt, doc, docx, rtf, txt). Submissions by someone else than a listed author will not be accepted. The submitting author accepts responsibility for the paper during the submission and peer review process.

Papers are submitted with the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere and are not currently under consideration by another journal. The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that the article's content has been approved by all other co-authors. Authors should be aware that papers submitted for publication will be edited solely to improve readability.

We check all accepted papers by using a plagiarism software.
